Letter from the Director
27 March 2020
Dear Parents and Caregivers
On behalf of the Council and staff of Zion Lutheran Preschool, we wish to acknowledge your significant concerns shared in our community around the implications caused by COVID-19. As challenges arise, our preschool will continue to make the best decisions possible, based on the information we have at the time. All of our families belong to our community, and in this difficult time we hope it brings comfort to know you are not alone. We will work to maintain a close connection with families, will keep you all in our prayers and look to Christ for hope and comfort at this time.
School holidays have been extended by one week.
Our last days for Term 1 will be:
Group 1: Wednesday 1 April
Group 2: Friday 3 April
as we are following the decision by Education Standards Board for Government schools and preschools for April 6 to 9 to be pupil free days.
These days will be used by staff to prepare for learning to continue ‘off-site’. If you are an essential worker during this COVID-19 pandemic or you cannot work from home, and you are unable to arrange care for your children on their days between April 6 to 9, then please talk to the Director as soon as possible to discuss options for care.
During the week of April 6 to 9 we will contact you via email to give you more information as we plan for learning ‘off-site’ in the event that preschool cannot resume on Monday 27 & Tuesday 28 April and for families who are self-isolating.
We would like to assure all families that we are committed to supporting you through these challenging times. We encourage parents and carers that are affected by COVID-19 who will find it difficult to pay preschool fees in the coming months to please contact the Director.
In the event of a closure of the preschool, Council and Preschool staff will remain in communication with families. Decisions will need to be made regarding ongoing payments and fees for families, which would take into consideration the length of time of a closure.
For families who have already chosen to self-isolate we have listed two websites with some ideas for learning activities for pre-schoolers. Zion Preschool advocates for learning through play. We encourage you enjoy the time you have your children home and make special connections with them. They may be feeling anxious about the situation and sad to be missing preschool and other activities, so don’t put pressure on yourself or your children at this time.
